Designed and built to be the Melby Family’s summer get-away, this 4,000 SF vacation home has turned into a popular spot for family reunions and corporate retreats. Charming and spacious, MelbyMonte Lodge has hosted many holidays, family reunions and birthdays for our family and we’ve now opened it to yours (when we’re not using it!). With 6 bedrooms (plus den and loft), and 4 bathrooms, we’re certain to accommodate your needs!
Located on the side of a quiet mountain, guests have privacy, beautiful views and the national forest is your backyard. The setting is “woods” with views either across the valley, or into adjacent tree tops. We are on a dead-end, low speed, gravel road. No houses beyond ours, so there are almost NO cars driving by. You can find hiking, fishing, white water rafting, skiing, and more within minutes! After a day of activities, sit back and relax on the screened back porch, grapevine covered arbor with picnic table or open deck wrap-around front porch with charcoal grill and picnic table.
For those who enjoy shopping and dining out, we are a short 20 minute drive to both Cashiers and Highlands. Located off of Whiteside Cove Road, we are directly between both picturesque towns.

DINING ROOM & KITCHEN Designed for entertaining, MelbyMonte Lodge offers an open floor plan with a large 12′ dining room table. Between the dining room, kitchen table and bar area, 20-25 guests sit comfortably.
The kitchen is completely stocked with pots/pans, utensils, etc. The pantry and refrigerator probably have an assortment of food items. You are welcome to use anything there, and welcome to leave any non-perishable foods you do not use. The water here is the cleanest, freshest, purest, best water you’ve ever tasted. Straight from the ground out front, but 650’ down.

FOR THE KIDS Out back, kids can play in a small fort and swings, shaded hammock, horse shoes and campfire ring for making smores and telling stories!
For rainy days, we have LOTS of books and videos, and a collection of various board games for the kids. We also have a large round table adjacent to the kitchen for playing cards and board games. We have a dart board on the screened porch – under adult supervision only.
Shhh.. we even have a secret “kids cave” underneath the stairs like Harry Potter that the kids love to play in. No adults allowed!
GO GREEN! OK, so this is a very large vacation rental, but it is also a highly efficient, passive solar building. All windows are double-pane, argon gas filled and low-E coated, so heat transfer in or out is kept to a minimum. The main wall with most of the windows faces directly south to capture the sun’s heat in winter. Overhangs keep them shaded in summer. Construction is cutting edge: hollow Styrofoam block, laced with rebar and filled with poured concrete making it the strongest and most highly insulated wall available.
